Senior kick-off specialist Drew Combs was honored with the 2008 College Football Rudy Award at the American Football Coaches Association Convention on Monday at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tenn. BYU defeats Lady Horned Frogs 62-46

The Lady Horned Frog basketball team lost its claim to the top spot in the Mountain West on Tuesday with a 62-46 loss to the BYU Cougars. Turnovers and poor field goal shooting caused the loss. The Lady Frogs shot 22.4 percent from the field in the game and 18. (0) comments

Sure, there were other sports in action during the fall semester, like volleyball, swimming and diving, soccer, tennis and golf, but we all know football reigns supreme in Texas, and that's no different here at our university. As the Lady Frogs gear up to face the Air Force Falcons on Saturday, momentum is on their side as the team looks to continue its road winning streak. The women's basketball team beat the University of Nevada, Las Vegas on Tuesday for its second consecutive road win and hopes to secure number three in Colorado Springs, Colo. (0) comments

The men's basketball (11-8) team will be looking to bounce back from a two-game losing streak Saturday. With a 3-3 record in the Mountain West Conference, the Horned Frogs are in a three-way tie for third place. The Frogs' opponent, the Air Force Falcons (11-8, 3-3) will also be looking to rebound from a loss after losing to Brigham Young on Wednesday night. (0) comments

College baseball teams usually start with known commodities such as a tested pitching staff and an experienced batting lineup, but TCU's baseball team is starting the 2008 season from scratch in most areas. The team lost the 2-5 hitters in its batting order, the entire starting pitching staff and All-American closer Sam Demel. (0) comments

Men's tennis team embraces challenge

The men's tennis team entered the season as a group of mostly young and untested players, but this youth has produced results and a common bond that is one of the squad's biggest strengths. The team is one of the youngest in the nation, head coach Dave Borelli said, but his confidence in the team is high. (0) comments

Winning streak for women's rifle team

Going into this season, the women's rifle team faced high expectations. Returning six-letter winners from a group that tied for No. 5 in the nation with the University of Nebraska a year ago, the team has its sights set on loftier goals. After inconsistent showings earlier in the season, the team has captured three consecutive wins, including its first-ever victory against Nebraska, 4641-4627. (0) comments

Experienced infielders defensive backbone of team

The Horned Frogs baseball team will lean on an experienced infield to lead the team. "I think we have a very veteran infield coming back," junior first baseman Corey Steglich said. "A lot of guys have played their positions and started there before. That should be the anchor of our team this year. (0) comments

The men's golf team will look to capitalize on its hard work as it opens spring play Wednesday at the UH Hilo Intercollegiate event in Waikoloa, Hawaii, the team's coach said. Five out of the eight golfers on the team travel to each event, and coach Bill Montigel said success will hinge on a total team effort this year. (0) comments

Consistency is paramount in golf - for the women's program, top-25 finishes when the seasons come to a close are the status-quo under coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin. Since entering the Mountain West Conference, the Horned Frogs have earned three consecutive NCAA Regional Tournament bids and have taken a conference championship title. (0) comments

Frogs lose to UNLV, player injured

The Horned Frogs' streak of six consecutive home wins ended Wednesday night after its leading scorer went down with a leg injury in the first half of the game. The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, which is tied with Brigham Young University for the Mountain West Conference lead, beat TCU 70-58 in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. (0) comments

Open starting rotation slots up for grabs by untested staff

After losing the entire starting rotation from last season, the TCU pitching staff will start practice on Feb. 1 with several question marks Head coach Jim Schlossnagle said rotation spots are going to be very competitive heading into this season. "We have a lot of fresh faces this season," sophomore right-handed pitcher Tyler Lockwood said. (0) comments

The first men's basketball home game since coaches and players asked Greek members to start showing up to games featured strong support from fraternities and sororities. During the past two weeks, head coach Neil Dougherty, his assistant coaches and players attended fraternity and sorority meetings explaining how poor home-game attendance has been lately. Center fielder local leader of Frogs platoon outfield

An experienced leader in center field headlines this year's outfield for Horned Frog baseball, which will also be relying on a handful of infielders adjusting to the deeper position. Head coach Jim Schlossnagle said senior center fielder Clint Arnold is one of the team's vocal leaders - a player most everyone else on the team looks to for guidance. (0) comments

Construction behind the south end zone of Amon Carter Stadium is on schedule and is planned to be completed by July 1, an associate athletics director said. The Dutch Meyer Athletics Complex and Abe Martin Academic Enhancement Center have been under construction since the beginning of the 2007 football season. (0) comments
