Representatives of the TCU Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community expressed a lack of unity within the gay population in addition to the broader campus, according to a study on the support of LGBT students within the university. A research project led by sophomore social work major Shelly Newkirk and her mentor Tracy Dietz, associate professor of social work, extensively surveyed five students from the gay community. Like many juniors and seniors, she has made plans to live off campus in the fall. The benefits of on-campus housing, such as being part of a tight-knit college community and living within walking distance of classes make some wonder why students would want to move off campus. Whether the film's story is necessarily true, "Leatherheads" successfully captures the time period of the 1920s with its speakeasies, jazz music and struggling institution called pro football. This is a thoroughly enjoyable film with multiple comedic characters and endless hilarity. (2) comments
