Opinion

The last few months have been a frenzy of political activity. Two long months of transitioning toward the immaculate inauguration have left many out of political breath, so to speak. And just when there seemed to be a lull in the festivities, the Texas Legislature began their biennial session last week with plenty on the agenda. (0) comments

Inauguration expenses counter to Obama's promise

Despite the fact that our country is experiencing the worst economic conditions since the Great Depression, America spent $170 million on President Barack Obama's inauguration ceremony and the surrounding events. The federal government contributed an estimated $49 million in taxpayers' money. (6) comments

When you're about to recycle that paper, think about throwing it away first. You may actually save a tree. Recycling feels good. It's a simple way to help the environment. When many people recycle paper, they feel as if they have helped keep a tree from being cut down. (4) comments

I had the great privilege of working with Michael R. Ferrari Award for Distinguished University Service and Leadership winner Tara Perez for two years. My work with her, however, was not on the College Resource Committee but on the Living Wage Campaign. The Living Wage Campaign, headed by Perez, was a group of Fort Worth and TCU community leaders advocating for an increase in the university's starting wage for Physical Plant and housekeeping employees. I am the treasurer of Fort Worth Citizens for Responsible Government and editor of our electronic newsletter. I would like to thank Katie for the article and the Daily Skiff for printing subject matter that is deadly accurate concerning what we citizens must deal with on a daily basis when we try to protect our families and property from an uncaring Fort Worth management staff, some council members, the mayor and their connections to the natural gas exploration/production industry. Bush worthy of admiration despite flaws

In his farewell address Thursday night, President Bush thanked the American people for giving him an opportunity to serve. But most Americans weren't thinking, "You're welcome, Mr. President." Closing his presidency with a 34 percent approval rating, according to a Gallup poll, Bush will leave as one of the most unpopular presidents ever, and there's good reason for that. (0) comments

Today marks the beginning of "change." It is a change from Bush and what Americans have felt both dissatisfied and comfortable with, but the fact is that we are still in an economic crisis, and no amount of goodwill and high hopes can get us out of it. Despite the variety of political views, backgrounds and majors here at TCU, everyone is in for a world of hurt after graduation no matter who the president is. (0) comments

Finally, the day has come when we can begin a positive change for our nation. The past eight years have left our economy and civil liberties in the tank, and executive authority expanded to the point that must have the Founding Fathers turning in their graves. (0) comments

Outward display of faith not an indicator of spirituality Mr. Weatherford ("Obama must demonstrate true faith," Jan. 16) should remember that outward religious expression is not always a reliable indicator of a relationship with God. After all, the most religious people in the New Testament were the Pharisees, who were all about showing how religious they were, without actually taking God's teachings into their hearts.
