The Lady Frogs will have a first-round bye when the Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Championships kick off today in Las Vegas. And judging from their performance against the University of Utah on Saturday, they've earned it. Tennis recap: Men beat weekend rivals; Michigan defeats women's team

Men sweep weekend matches The No. 43-ranked men's tennis team pulled through with two wins this weekend at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The team won 6-1 Friday against No. 63 University of San Diego and 4-3 Saturday against the University of Texas at San Antonio. (0) comments

Women's tennis team hopes to rebound with Texas A&M

After losing its third consecutive event Saturday at home against the University of Alabama, the women's tennis team will try to right the ship Thursday with a visit to College Station. With both teams cheering on the final match from the sidelines, the team lost a nail-biter Saturday afternoon at the Bayard H. (0) comments

The team was right back in action Monday with an afternoon match against Duke, the No. 38-ranked team in the country. The Horned Frogs' success from the weekend didn't carry over, however, as they fell to the Blue Devils, 4-3. The team gained the doubles point once again, but dropped four out of six singles matches. Horned Frogs falter in regular season finale The men's basketball team fell to Utah by a score of 68-49 on Saturday in Salt Lake City, marking the second time this season the Horned Frogs have fallen to the Utes. The loss gave the team a final record of 5-11 in Mountain West Conference play and an overall record of 14-16 on the season. (0) comments

The Horned Frogs continued to put their offense on display Sunday as they completed their sweep of the Wichita State Shockers. "Wichita State came in this weekend and they kind of have had our number the last couple years now," Vern said. "We were looking forward to this one and were ready to go. (0) comments

Football spring training already in full swing

The calendar may still read March, but it seems like in Texas it is always football season. The Frogs have gotten back onto the gridiron for a set of 15 spring practices, with the last one being the spring game April 4 in Amon Carter Stadium. Head football coach Gary Patterson said he is glad to get back on the field, but thinks the spring is flying by. (0) comments

Q&A: Lady Frogs kick off championships

Sophomore forward Emily Carter, named to the All-Mountain West Conference Second Team on Monday, and the rest of the Lady Frogs will get rolling in the conference tournament tonight at 9 p.m. The team fought its way to a 20-9 record during the regular season including a 12-4 record in the MWC, good enough for third place in the conference. The World Baseball Classic is officially underway after Japan knocked off China 4-0 early Thursday morning. These games might not really matter to your fantasy leagues, but you do get a chance to see some of your favorite players face off against some live pitching with something on the line. (0) comments

Former TCU running back and current San Diego Charger LaDainian Tomlinson was among seven Texas athletes inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame Wednesday night in Waco. The ceremony took place at the Ferrell Center on the campus of Baylor University, very close to where Tomlinson played football at University High School. (0) comments

Wednesday night's hiccup against Baylor University was the first for the Horned Frog baseball team since their season-opening loss to Cal State Fullerton on Feb. 20. In between the two losses, the team collected six straight wins, scored 63 runs and moved from No. (0) comments

The No. 43-ranked men's tennis team continues its six-match homestand Friday and Saturday against the University of San Diego and the University of Texas at San Antonio. The team will look to build a winning streak heading into conference play, head coach Dave Borelli said. (0) comments

Lady Frogs to end season against Utes

A Mountain West Conference title is no longer in the picture for the women's basketball team, but head coach Jeff Mittie said ending the season with a win against a first-place University of Utah squad could help set the tone for the upcoming conference tournament. (0) comments

The baseball team plated four runs in the eighth inning in a come-from-behind 6-5 win over Wichita State on Friday night at Lupton Stadium. Three of those runs came on first baseman Matt Vern's three-run home run. Vern said he was simply taking advantage of an opportunity. (0) comments

The Lady Frogs earned their 20th win of the season by knocking off the Mountain West Conference-leading Utah Utes. Despite trailing by as much as 13 early in the game, the team bounced back to win 53-47. The Utes took a three-point lead into the locker room at halftime thanks to a made layup on the last shot of the half, but the Horned Frogs began the second half on a 8-2 run to take the lead for the first time.
