It seems that hyperbole has become more than just a rhetorical tool lately. In the last week alone, no fewer than three instances of exaggeration from high-profile speakers have wavered near the line that divides creative expression from doltish blathering. (0) comments

Last September, when he was running for office, President Barack Obama made a promise that families making under $250,000 wouldn't see a tax increase of any kind. Now Congress and the White House are using a new tax on cigarettes and tobacco products to balance federal spending, but even in spite of the good intentions of the tax to dissuade users from smoking, the timing puts unnecessary financial pressure on those who can't kick the habit. Sending lewd photos via text message, one especially lecherous part of the phenomenon known as "sexting," is a foolish practice that has no place at the university. While college is often known as a place of wild antics and raging hormones, it is important for students to use their heads and keep cell phones and bare skin separated. (1) comment
