Making good on a key campaign promise, President Barack Obama is working to make education more accessible to everyone without using a tax increase to do it. The plan involves cutting out private banks for subsidized loan administration, which currently requires billions of taxpayer dollars each year in subsidies and a collection of the maximum interest rate allowed by Congress. It's amazing how history repeats itself, even when the history only happened last year. President Barack Obama, in his infinite wisdom, made a budget in which we would no longer have subsidized loans made by private banks but by direct government lending instead. (2) comments

Although I am certainly both, I would say I am an American before I would say I am a Texan. I am a part of a union and thus I believe in working to solve a national crisis rather than "running away" from it. After reading the statements of Gov. Rick Perry and some of my fellow Texans, I must say I feel rather confused. (5) comments

Racial slur inappropriate for play How could "Talking With" be accepted as an appropriate production by the university's theatre department? I found myself sobbing on Saturday afternoon while exiting the play during Claire Parker's monologue "Twirler" after she said twice, "Baton twirlers are like the niggers at a white university. It has come to my attention that there will be gay living quarters on campus, sanctioned by the university. This is an accommodation to immoral living. Would the university allow men and women to room together on campus? (3) comments

In one of the top headlines of the week, President Barack Obama finally fulfilled his campaign promise to his daughters and welcomed a new dog into the family. News broadcasts, Web sites and even the blogosphere are on full blast about the newest Obama in the White House. (3) comments

In a recent letter to the editor, James Scarberry, class of TCU '59, wrote "it has come to my attention that there will be gay living quarters on campus, sanctioned by the university." This, Scarberry argues, is an action taken by the university that serves as "an accommodation to immoral living. (0) comments

After five uneasy days, citizens of the U.S. were relieved and overjoyed Sunday to learn that Capt. Richard Phillips of the Maersk Alabama had been rescued from the four pirates taking him hostage. One of the four pirates - all of whom were between 17 and 19 years old - surrendered. (0) comments

The United States was formed on the basis of each state having its own sovereignty. This fact is not new. In fact, it was a founding principle clearly outlined in the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Our Founding Fathers agreed that each state would have the ability to make its own laws and carry them out, with a central government uniting all the states and keeping them together, while making federal laws that would not overshadow the 10th Amendment. Campus Voices: Do the LLCs conflict with the university's mission statement?

If you're talking about being ethical, then doesn't that mean you accept all people and do what's good for all people? TCU said they want to be responsible and as soon as the heat happens they say 'Oh no! We don't want anything to do with this,' and I'm thinking 'Are you going to stand up for what you believe in or not? Alyssa Christian sophomore communications major from DeSoto I don't think so. I don't need to remind anyone who goes to the university how much college can cost. Many university graduates who now have jobs are still paying off student loans and there is no end in sight for them - especially in this economy. Some are undoubtedly still struggling to find a job to begin paying off their loans. (0) comments

It is difficult to believe that among the 21st century conflicts that our generation faces - such as the mad dash for alternative energy - that piracy would still be a problem. But when a nation such as Somalia exists practically without a government, anything is possible. (0) comments

If you all can endure one more opinion piece about the Living Learning Communities, let this one be it. I think we can all agree that the overwhelming backlash received was uncalled for, and that it was largely because of misrepresentation in the media. The truth be told, the DiversCity Q LLC welcomed anyone and everyone who was interested, and the majority of participants are allies (heterosexual supporters) looking for a way to show support and get involved. The National Rifle Association is offering free one-year trial memberships to all Americans in an effort to show lawmakers how many citizens support their Second Amendment right to bear arms. Although President Barack Obama - along with the Democratic majority in Congress - has pursued some worthwhile progressive causes, extending gun control is not one of them. (8) comments

What does it take to graduate in three years? Is it worth it? It's not for everyone, I can tell you that much. My journey at TCU began in January 2007. I will graduate in December. For those of you who are like me and can't stand math, that's two years and 11 months for me to earn my B. (0) comments
