Freshman quarterback adjusts to new life on campus

When Casey Pachall arrived on campus on a cold January day, he found himself assigned to Brachman Hall, far from the suite life his new teammates were living in Moncrief Hall. Casey's parents, Stan and Debbie Pachall, helped their youngest son unload containers from his hand-me-down Dodge Ram and haul them up to his temporary third-floor room. (0) comments

Just like the defensive linemen before them, the 2009 linebacking core will include just one starter from last year's trio. Overall, only five out of 11 starters from 2008's top-ranked defense will be returning for the Horned Frogs next season. Departing seniors Jason Phillips and Robert Henson, who combined for 157 tackles, will try their hand at the next level. (0) comments

Baseball team capitalizes on errors to secure win

Trailing Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 2-1 in the third inning at Lupton Stadium on Tuesday night, with a runner on second and the meat of the Islander lineup coming up, head coach Jim Schlossnagle called on his bullpen to help him get out of a jam. Reliever Tyler Lockwood calmly took the mound and picked off the runner. (0) comments

The baseball season is finally here and with that fantasy baseball season has finally started. After weeks of drafting, looking at projections and making speculations, you now have the chance to see your hard work pay off on the virtual field. I was fairly successful in my first week with my teams, but there is always room to bolster your lineup. (0) comments

The women's tennis team will close out the regular season at home today when they take on No. 5 Baylor. The Horned Frogs (13-9, 7-1 Mountain West Conference) will bring a six-match winning streak into the match. "They're one of the best teams in the country," said head coach Jefferson Hammond. Talented team posed to surpass 2008 season, reach BCS bowl It's always football season in Texas. Once the regular season ends, bowl season begins. Once bowl season ends the spring season begins. Once the spring season ends it's summer and you would think there is no football going on, but the players are constantly working out. (1) comment

The women's tennis team left the indoor courts Friday with a little better idea of what it will need to work on before this week's Mountain West Conference Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., after a 4-1 loss to a No. 5-ranked Baylor squad. The Horned Frogs, ranked No. (0) comments

On a defense full of question marks and new faces, the only group that even comes close to resembling how it looked last season will be the Frogs' secondary. Thanks to the team's unique 4-2-5 alignment, five defensive backs frequently populate the field for the team. (0) comments

Only one starter from the Frogs' 2008 defensive line will be returning for the upcoming season. But if you had to pick one player to return to the D-line in 2009, it would certainly have to be consensus All-American defensive end Jerry Hughes. Hughes, a 6-foot-3-inch, 257-pound senior from Sugar Land, racked up a nation-leading 15 sacks last season to go along with a total of six forced fumbles, also the best in the nation. (0) comments

Horned Frogs survive error-filled contest

An ugly game turned into a close one Wednesday afternoon as the No. 16 Horned Frogs dispatched Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 10-7 despite early defensive woes for both teams. The Horned Frogs started strong as starting pitcher Steven Maxwell struck out three in the first and Chris Ellington gave the team an early 2-0 lead with a single in the bottom of the inning.
