F2CR campaign could be more effective

The Alcohol and Drug Center began a new campaign on campus with the slogan "freedom to choose responsibly" coupled with the catchy graphic sporting the acronym "F2CR". While this is certainly an admirable cause, it has unfortunately brought some negative perceptions along with it. (0) comments

A California woman scheduled to deploy for Afghanistan did not arrive to her departure Nov. 6 because she needed to care for her infant son, according to an Associated Press report. Twenty-one-year-old Alexis Hutchinson made the right choice in this case. (8) comments

Conservative Katharine DeBrecht, author of "Help! Mom! Radicals are Ruining my Country," portrays Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi as "an elitist, tiara-donning radical out of touch with everyday Americans" in her new book. Is this really the kind of thing we want our children to be reading? The book is a true children's book, with bright illustrations and child-friendly vocabulary and structure. (2) comments

Why do perfectly sane individuals feel the need to turn crazy at rock concerts? Did I miss the part where you check your self respect at the door? I attended a rock concert Friday night. It was one of those standing room only venues, which perpetuates uncomfortable closeness between strangers. (0) comments

Is there an age limit on how we dress? Should there be a dress code for life, or is it about freedom of personal expression? My daughter is having a "Twilight" themed party this weekend. All the guests will be decked out in their New Moon finery. My daughter insisted it would be "so much fun" if I wore a Twilight shirt as well. (0) comments

Chimpanzees not the safest house pet

Last February, a Connecticut woman was mauled by her friend's 200-pound chimpanzee. (1) comment

Letter to the Editor: Patterson for Coach of the Year

I'm a TCU alumnus, and I've been trying to get the word out for people to vote for Gary Patterson for 2009 Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year. He was No. 23 at the beginning of last week. I started a Facebook group a few days ago called "Vote Patterson - Coach of the Year 2009", and as of today, Coach P moved up to the No. (0) comments

Stuff the turkey and not yourself

"Hey Uncle Buck, could you please pass me the mashed potatoes? I need to put about a pound of them on my plate next to the turkey legs. You know, it is Thanksgiving after all." Uncle Buck gladly passes you the homemade, buttery mashed potatoes as you eye his obnoxious, red-deer sweater that he seemingly pulled out of a magic wardrobe just in time for Thanksgiving and other holidays. As tuition rates continue to rise at an alarming rate, it is time that university officials re-evaluate the flat-rate tuition policy that requires students to pay the same price for 18 hours as if they were only taking 12 or 15. The plan was promoted as one that would encourage students to graduate on time, but it also lines the university's pockets with money for nothing. (1) comment

Everyone likes a good story. Let's start with one. Let's say you have an account with a bank and you use debit cards to draw from that account once in a while. One day, you go out with your friends and have a nice dinner. You buy dinner, and use your debit card to pay for the purchase. (0) comments
